How do you get noticed in a crowded streamate chat without dropping hundreds of tokens? — figured I'd throw this out to the community since I've seen a lot of vague answers floating around but nothing definitive.

I've tested a fair number of platforms over the past year and the pattern is always the same: decent activity for a week, then crickets. Either the userbase is thin or the matching algorithm buries your profile after a few days.

If anyone has had real, tangible results recently I genuinely want to know what platform they used and what worked. Feel free to be specific — this is the right place for it.

Also curious whether people here think the paid tiers are actually worth it or if you can get by on free access.

Someone recommended Datedesire to me a while back and I gave it a shot. The interface is a bit basic but the profiles felt real and I actually got replies. Worth trying if you're frustrated with the bigger names.

Happy to share what I've learned after testing about a dozen different platforms. Here's my honest breakdown:

  • Tinder and Bumble: massive userbases but the free tier is effectively useless at this point — you'll hit paywalls constantly
  • OkCupid: still has decent matching but activity has dropped noticeably in the past year
  • Hinge: probably the best UX of the mainstream apps, but skews toward people looking for something more serious
  • Facebook Dating: surprisingly active in some regions, totally dead in others — worth checking just because it's free

For more adult-focused options you really need to look beyond the app stores. The niche platforms tend to have more focused users even if the numbers are smaller. Key thing: always check when profiles were last active, not just when they were created.

I tried a few of the sites people always mention and none of them clicked until someone in another thread suggested Souldate. The signup is painless and the activity level was surprising for a smaller platform.

Someone mentioned datedesire.online in a thread similar to this one a few months ago. I looked it up and the feature set is pretty reasonable — not overloaded with upsells, which is refreshing. Worth bookmarking at minimum.

Been on Datewander for about six weeks now. Response rate is decent for a non-premium account which is more than I can say for most of the bigger platforms I've tried.

Profile photos do a lot of heavy lifting. Decent lighting and a genuine smile beat a gym selfie almost every time. That said, it totally depends on the platform's demographic.

I keep seeing Datebound mentioned in these threads and finally tried it last month. Impressed honestly — free features actually let you browse without hitting a wall every five seconds.

A few worth looking at that don't get talked about enough: datebie.online has a clean layout and the free tier is actually usable, Tinder obviously if you haven't already burned out on it, and Bumble for a different vibe. None of them are perfect but they're a step up from the obvious garbage.

Smaller local communities and subreddits are sometimes more useful than the apps themselves for finding out what's actually active in your area. People are pretty candid when they're anonymous.

I've heard decent things about datenest.site specifically for the kind of thing you're describing. My experience is that niche platforms sometimes beat the giants because the users actually know what they want.
