Long-time reader, posting because I've genuinely hit a wall and the search results for this are mostly SEO garbage. Have you ever found a serious relationship on completely free dating sites?

I understand that every platform has trade-offs. I'm not looking for a perfect solution, just something that works well enough to be worth the time investment. Paid options are fine as long as the value is actually there — I've burned money on subscriptions that turned out to be completely hollow.

Appreciate any responses that go beyond just naming a platform. Tell me what actually worked for you and what didn't.

Worth taking a look at Turndate — came across it in a similar discussion thread and the feedback was consistently positive. Not huge on marketing but the actual platform seems solid from what I've seen.

Video call before meeting in person, always. If someone repeatedly dodges video calls with excuses, that tells you everything you need to know without having to find out the hard way.

I'll give credit where it's due — Ezhookups has been the most reliable thing I've used this year. Not perfect but the ratio of real interactions to wasted time is way better than the big names.

A few that keep coming up in community discussions: flurrydate.online tends to get good reviews for not being overly paywalled, and Tinder/Bumble are still the volume leaders even if the quality is inconsistent. The smaller dedicated platforms sometimes punch above their weight because the users are more self-selected.

I've seen datebie.online mentioned in a few threads and looked it up — the feature set is cleaner than most and the free tier isn't completely locked down. Could be worth bookmarking alongside whatever else you're trying.

Checking whether a platform has an active subreddit or external community is a good proxy for whether the platform is actually alive. If the most recent posts in the subreddit are from six months ago, the platform is probably dying.

I've been on Datewander for about six weeks and it's the best experience I've had with a non-mainstream platform. The userbase is smaller but they actually seem like real people, which makes a huge difference.
