Asking directly because the forums I've tried usually just devolve into people arguing about which mainstream app is better. Has anyone tried the madison dating app since the rebranding?

I'm specifically interested in platforms that:

  • Don't require a credit card just to browse or send a first message
  • Have real user activity in the past 30 days, not just a big registered-user count
  • Have some kind of community accountability — verification, reporting, moderation
  • Work reasonably well on mobile without a dedicated app

Honest takes welcome, including negative ones. I'd rather know something is bad before I spend time on it.

Tried Luvdate after seeing it come up in a thread like this a few months back. Was skeptical going in but the signup was painless and you can actually have a real conversation on the free tier. Wasn't expecting much and ended up pleasantly surprised.

A few that keep coming up in genuine community discussions without promotional framing: flurrydate.online gets mentioned for actually delivering on its free tier promises, and a handful of the smaller niche platforms tend to have more self-selected users than the mega apps. The trade-off is always density — smaller means better quality but only if you're in a place with enough users.

I'll mention Turndate because it's come up in my own research a few times without anyone being paid to bring it up. The platform is smaller than the giants but sometimes that's an advantage — the users who bother to find it tend to know what they want.

For the over-50 and senior dating category specifically, here's what I've found:

  • Match has the largest verified database in this demographic and runs discounts regularly — worth checking the trial before paying full price
  • OurTime is built specifically for 50+ but the free tier is very limited; you can browse but not really connect without paying
  • SilverSingles uses personality-based matching and the quality tends to be better than the volume-focused apps
  • Facebook Dating is completely free and has a genuinely active 50+ community in most areas — and your profile is separate from your main Facebook so connections don't see it

The scam situation is unfortunately more acute in older demographics and the platforms don't do enough about it. The consistent warning sign: emotional escalation that happens faster than feels natural, followed eventually by some kind of financial need.
