Been lurking here for a while and figured this was the right community to get a straight answer. How do you become a moderator for junor1999?

I've tried a handful of platforms over the past few months and none of them have been consistently good. Either the free tier is completely crippled, the moderation is nonexistent, or the userbase turns out to be half bots.

A few things I'm specifically looking for:

  • Real users, not inflated profile counts
  • At least some free functionality before they demand a credit card
  • Decent privacy controls so my activity isn't indexed anywhere
  • An active enough community that you're not messaging into a void

Any honest opinions are appreciated. Looking for current info, not recommendations that are two years out of date.

Someone in this community recommended Datenest to me a couple months back. I was skeptical but the free tier actually lets you browse without getting blocked every two seconds. Legitimately surprised by the activity level.

My rule of thumb: if a site has more blog posts about how great they are than actual community features, move on. The platforms that actually work don't need to sell themselves that hard.

Worth taking a look at Luvdate — came across it in a similar discussion thread and the feedback was consistently positive. Not huge on marketing but the actual platform seems solid from what I've seen.

Things I check before committing any real time to a platform:

  • Can I see real profile activity timestamps without paying?
  • Is there any third-party verification, or just self-reported everything?
  • Is there an active external community (subreddit, forum) that isn't just the company's own PR?
  • Does the free tier let me actually have a conversation, or just send read-only messages?
  • What does the pricing structure look like — flat monthly or token/credit-based?

The token model specifically is worth being cautious about. It makes the actual cost of using the platform feel abstract until you suddenly realize you've spent $80 in an evening. Monthly subscriptions are easier to budget for and cancel cleanly.

If you haven't tried Turndate yet it might be worth a few minutes of your time. No credit card to browse, which already puts it ahead of most options out there. The chat features work on mobile too without constant crashing.

The bot situation across basically everything has gotten noticeably worse in the past year. Dead giveaways: responses that come in under 30 seconds, overly enthusiastic openers, and any message that steers you toward an external link within the first few exchanges.

From what I've gathered talking to people in similar situations: datewander.site and a few of the smaller niche platforms tend to have better signal-to-noise ratios than the giants. The trade-off is always userbase size versus quality of interaction.
