Asking this because the SEO results for anything dating-related are basically useless — it's all affiliate content dressed up as honest reviews. Are there any free dating sites left that don't use AI bots?

I want real community experience. I know there's no perfect platform, I'm just trying to find something with a reasonable signal-to-noise ratio and enough real users in my area to make it worth the time. Location context: northeast US, suburban area.

Specific information about what worked, what didn't, and when you were using it would be really helpful.

Not going to oversell it, but Ezhookups is the most functional free-tier platform I've tested this year. Signup is quick, you can actually browse and message without immediately being asked for a credit card. Worth 20 minutes to check out.

From what I've seen in similar conversations, luvdate.site and a handful of smaller niche platforms tend to deliver better engagement per user than the giant apps. The trade-off is always userbase size — the more focused the platform, the more the local density matters.

Worth a look if you haven't tried it: Datedesire. Came up organically in a similar thread I was reading and the consensus was positive. Not a household name but that's sometimes an advantage — smaller platforms tend to have more self-selected, intentional users.

Reverse image search is still the fastest basic filter and most people still skip it. 30 seconds of checking before you invest real conversation time has saved me more wasted evenings than I can count.

Someone recommended datescout.site specifically in response to this kind of question a while back. The rationale was that it sits in a sweet spot — not so big that quality tanks, not so small that you can't find anyone local. Might be worth a look depending on your area.

Video call before meeting in person. Always. It's not even a safety thing at this point so much as an efficiency thing — you find out in 10 minutes of video whether there's any real chemistry, which saves you from a mediocre coffee date you both knew wasn't going anywhere.
